Presentation transcript:

IS THIS LOVE? What is a healthy/ unhealthy relationship?

Psychological/Emotional Emotional or psychological abuse can be verbal or nonverbal. Emotional abuse includes verbal abuse such as yelling, name calling, blaming and shaming, isolation (thereby reducing support networks for victims), intimidation, threats of violence and controlling behaviour. Emotional/psychological abuse has been described by some female victims as having a more profound effect on their lives, even when there has been physical violence involved.

Physical a range of behaviours including punching; slapping; hitting; biting; pinching; kicking; pulling hair out; pushing; shoving; burning and strangling. Research by CAADA showed high levels of serious violence being experienced by teenage victims.

Sexual Rape and sexual abuse is common in abusive relationships and a victim's right to consent is likely to be ignored. Any situation in which an individual is forced to participate in unwanted, unsafe or degrading sexual activity is sexual abuse. There is evidence that rape and sexual abuse is a more common type of abuse experienced by young people in relationships.
