Tailoring our communication when giving verbal feedback @CastleManorTL @CMASENhub Tailoring our communication when giving verbal feedback (or, ‘How to Improve Your Pirate Face’) ‘Take a seat’ ‘Do you think that’s funny?’ ‘It’s raining cats and dogs’ ‘The noise level is too high’ ‘You need to use more descriptive language ’

What pesky habits do we have when we talk to students? What problems do our students face when trying to understand what we mean? @CastleManorTL @CMASENhub Tailoring our communication when giving verbal feedback (or, ‘How to Improve Your Pirate Face’) What pesky habits do we have when we talk to students? Speak too fast; Waffle; Go off on random tangents because I’m excited about the topic; **This is me. Not you. Don’t panic. I’m not trying to be rude. Honest What do we need to do more of? Let them think about what you’ve said. Extra time in exams = extra time to think in class; Watch their faces. Is it confused-piratey or happy-let’s-attack-the-mainland-piratey? Be clear. Really clear; Keep it to the point; Ask a colleague to come and listen to what you say in LiTi or a Learning Walk; Be aware of distractions -displays, the board, sounds, light, blinds, other students. Do have their full attention? Do you leave a written summary of your feedback? Pace doesn’t always mean faster.
