The Sure Salvation 2 Timothy 4:6-8
Fought The Good Fight The word “fought” means “to contend, or struggle, with great zeal in order to obtain something” Paul had compared Christians with soldiers (2 Tim. 2:5) He had urged Timothy to “fight the good fight of faith” (1 Tim. 6:12)
God’s soldiers must fight against: Error (2 Tim. 2:17-18) Temptation (1 Cor. 10:13) Discouragement (Gal. 6:9)
Finished The Course Living as a Christian is like running a race (1 Cor. 9:24-26) One must run with patience (Heb. 12:1-2) One must look to Jesus: As an example of endurance (Heb. 12:3) As a source of strength (Phil. 4:13) There is an emphasis on “finished”
Kept The Faith The faith of some had been shipwrecked (1 Tim. 1:18-20) Many trials and tribulations will come (James 1:2-4) The reward is for those who finish (Heb. 11:6; 1 Peter 1:9; Rev. 2:10)
