Coaches should take some time during training POSITIVE COACHING SCOTLAND ATHLETES: COMPETITION PLEDGE Coaches should take some time during training sessions or in pre-competition discussions to explain the importance of respecting the rules – even if the opposition fail to do so. Coaches must encourage young people to respect the rules and refuse to break them. Coaches may wish to discuss a pledge with the young people, where they all agree to respect the rules. This pledge can then be displayed as a poster within the dressing room before a match, giving the coach an opportunity to reference their pledge and embed positive respectful behaviours. OUR COMPETITION PLEDGE We want to win the game the way it is supposed to be played. We refuse to bend the rules even if we can get away with it. Rules are there for a reason, breaking the rules dishonours our sport. We will always respect the rules.
