Unit: Water and the Atmosphere Lesson 1: Exploring the Ocean Essential Questions: 1.) How do conditions vary in Earth’s oceans? 2.) What are some features of the ocean floor?

How do conditions vary in Earth’s oceans? The water in Earth’s ocean varies in salinity, temperature and depth. The salinity of the ocean can change with precipitation and evaporation.

Ocean temperature changes according to depth. The water gets colder as you go deeper.

Ocean pressure changes according to depth. The pressure increases as you go deeper.

Temperature zones of the ocean Surface (0-500m) Transition (500-2000m) Deep (deeper than 2000m)
