Huntsville City Schools Staffing Update April 4, 2013

19,500 Candidates Applied for a Teaching Position with HCS Between May 1, 2012 and March 28, 2013

259 New Teachers Were Hired By the District and Assigned to Schools in 2012 - 2013

Due to Policy Changes and Talent Management Practices, Today 57% of Schools Meet Faculty Desegregation Criteria. Last Year only 39% Met this Criteria. Percent of School Faculty Who Are African American – Oct 2011 Percent of School Faculty Who Are African American – Oct 2012

Hiring Goals for 2013 -2014 and 2014 - 2015   Staff every classroom with a highly effective teacher. For the 2013-14 school year, the goal of the District is for at least 80% of the schools to be in compliance with the District’s faculty assignment obligation. For the 2014-15 school year, the goal of the District is for at least 90% of the schools to be in compliance with the District’s faculty assignment obligation.

New Teacher Placement Process Finance conducted staffing meetings with Deputy Superintendent, DOIs, SPED, HR, Federal Programs and PD on April 2nd and 4th to determine certified personnel needs for each school.

New Teacher Placement Process School staffing lists will be generated that outline the current staff and identify school needs, including needs related to Unitary Status.

New Teacher Placement Process School Staffing Meetings will be conducted with each school from April 8th through April 19th. School principals will use school staffing lists generated from these meetings to hire teachers for 2013.

New Teacher Placement Process School principals will complete Personnel Requisitions for openings. Positions will be advertised. On-line applications will be screened and evaluated for current HCS openings.

New Teacher Placement Process Teacher applicants who meet employment requirements will be scheduled for interviews. Teacher Screening Committees will conduct interviews and make recommendations based upon a consensus of interview rubric results.

New Teacher Placement Process Teacher Candidates will be placed in schools with two objectives in mind: To place highly effective staff in all schools To make progress toward achievement of Unitary Status

New Teacher Placement Process Teacher candidates will be reviewed and selected by principals within five working days of receiving candidate lists. Principals will submit an Action/Change Form once a candidate has been selected.

Teacher Placement is Key Good teachers impart good education. Great teachers groom their students to become leaders. Good teachers direct us along the right path, but great teachers inspire us to seek our own path. They encourage us to discover our talents.
