ExportQ A program written by the Yale Library Systems Office for use with the Voyager cataloging client… New England Voyager Users Group, 4 June 2003
Why We Needed It Voyager has only one export box ExportQ allows catalogers to flag bib records for export to multiple destinations ExportQ warns staff when bib records are out for authorities processing and must not be edited
Opens/Closes With Voyager Single icon opens both ExportQ and Voyager Cataloging Automatically shuts down when close Voyager Cataloging Options to use Voyager without ExportQ
ExportQ Window Can put on top of Voyager window Can move around screen Can minimize Always available in task bar
Window Features Displays bib ID of active record Can export to RLIN, OCLC, MARS Can view session export history Can copy/paste bib IDs
Exporting/Extracting ExportQ sends bib IDs (not actual records) to “export queues” Three queues (RLIN, OCLC, MARS) Systems Office uses these bib IDs to periodically do record extracts
MARS Extracts Weekly MARS extracts generate “do not edit” warning messages Warning messages remain until records return from MARS
Cataloging Workflow Catalogers must check ExportQ window before editing a bib record If ignore warning message, changes will be overlaid Editing MFHD and item records OK
Implementation Issues Exporting policies (which records get exported?) Staff training Documentation Extract and load schedules
Desired Enhancements Customizable default export destinations Automatic maximizing of ExportQ window when warning message displays
