About the teacher… Originally from Jackson; oldest of 6 kids; 5 younger brothers; graduated from Lumen Christi High School Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology from Aquinas College Worked at a research lab in Muskegon, then in Ashland, Ohio, then at The Upjohn Company for 19 years. Went back to school at Western Michigan University; Secondary Education major and Earth Science minor.

My family Husband John – married 27 years Daughter Jackie (22) – graduated from Hackett in 2013; graduated from Michigan State University 2017; employed at MPI Research Son Brennan (19) – Graduated from Hackett in 2016; student at kvcc Daughter Lindsey (16) – junior at Hackett Dog Zeus (7) – 50% Labrador retriever, 25% rat terrier, 25% shih tzu
Science 9 1st semester: Nature of science work and machines motion thermal energy forces *lots of formulas/math energy sources *lots of labs
Science 9 2nd semester: electricity sound magnetism and its uses electromagnetic waves energy sources *less formulas/math waves *still lots of labs
Science 9 If we have time: Light Mirrors and lenses Classification of matter Solids, liquids, and gasses
Science 9 The class will consist of: vocabulary lecture notes textbook questions worksheets lab sheets occasional lab report
Grading Summative assessments (tests): 70% Formative assessments (quizzes, some lab reports): 20% Practice (homework, worksheets, lab sheets): 10%
Semester grades First marking period: 40% Second marking period: 40% Final exam (covers entire semester): 20%
Academic awards Students can earn an academic letter at the end of the year with a 3.5 grade point average in the first 3 marking periods of each year Just like an athletic letter; white in color Goes towards the senior plaque award The Top student in sci 9 will earn an additional award (Award for Outstanding work in science 9)
National honor society I will introduce them to the requirements for joining the national honor society (occurs during the 2nd semester of their sophomore year) It’s not too soon to start thinking about this
