Lesson 3: The Needs of Living Things
FEBRUARY 18, 2015 WARM UP: You need your ISN and textbook.
Ecosystems are made up of both living and nonliving things
Abiotic and Biotic Factors Chapter 12, Lesson 1
Chapter 14.1 Biotic and Abiotic Factors of an Ecosystem
Abiotic-Biotic Interactions in an Ecosystem. In an ecosystem, the non-living (abiotic) and living (biotic) parts interact and affect each other. The four.

What are Abiotic Factors?  Abiotic factors consist of the non- living matter of the ecosystem.  These factors often limit the growth of organisms. 
Components of an Ecosystem Notes. An ecosystem consists of all of the living organisms and all of the non- living elements that interact in an area.
Cycles of Nature. Water Cycle: Review: As we have already learned, water is constantly being cycled and recycled in an ecosystem.
Limiting Factors of an Ecosystem. Ecosystem Components In an ecosystem, there are various factors that affect the survival and health of a population.

Environmental Factors Any factor, abiotic or biotic, that influences living organisms. Abiotic factors: temperature, sunlight, soil, food, water, etc Biotic: plants, animals 5/4/2019 Add a footer

Examples of Biotic Factors an their Effects Increased Predators: reduces the numbers of prey Parasites: cause diseases that may slow down the growth rate of a population and/or reduces the number of organisms. Competition: When organisms compete over nutritional resources, this could reduce the growth of a population. 5/4/2019 Add a footer

Examples of Abiotic Factors and their Effects Temperature: influences the distribution of plants and animals. Animals have a clear distinction between being cold blooded or warm blooded. Seasonal migration is seen in some animals.   Plants cannot prevent freezing of their tissues. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=iguana+fall+out+of+trees+when+its+cold&&view=det ail&mid=ECFE12D40CA1080F0451ECFE12D40CA1080F0451&FORM=VRDGAR 5/4/2019 Add a footer

Abiotic factors Water is essential for life and all the biotic components of the ecosystem are directly dependent on water for survival.  Atmospheric gases like oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide:  All organisms require oxygen for respiration.  Carbon dioxide is used by green plants to make food by the process of photosynthesis.  5/4/2019 Add a footer

Classwork Read the article Pick 3 abiotic/biotic factors you just read about write about how those factors can affect an organism of your choosing. (Minimum of 15 sentences) Make sure to describe your organism and the environment it lives in. Work independently we will review as a class 5/4/2019 Add a footer
