Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi “Father of the Nation” Thinking Development When Gandhi was 19 years old, he went to London to study law. While Gandhi was in London, he read and studied about different religions. Once Gandhi was finished with his schooling, he returned to India to be a lawyer. Gandhi was not able to find a job that pertained to law in India, so he decided to move from India to South Africa. 1. Background -Studied law in London -Studied different religions -Returned to India -Moved to South Africa 2. Faced racism & discrimination -First time on a train to South Africa -Kicked out of a restaurant -Not given a room 3. He was told to move to a third class booth, even though he had a first class ticket. While in South Africa, he faced many more hardships such as being kicked out of a restaurant.
