Coaching Football—19 Years Truth is this, WE all do the same things Coaching Football—19 Years Truth is this, WE all do the same things. Anyone who tells you different is a liar or delusional. We may call it different names but it’s all been done before. None of us are special or have a magical Offense/Defense/Special Teams. It comes down to this: 1) Is your relationship with your players strong enough that they will give you everything they have? 2) Are we running a system that best fits our players and their talents/putting them in a position to be successful 3) Are we teaching players that the TEAM comes before any individual aspirations? That they are 1/11th of the solution. 4) Is our staff of high quality? As in, can we coach(TEACH) the techniques and fundamentals needed to out execute our opponents. 5) We gotta make sure we have some ball players through development—Especially in the Off-Season   We got to have these things if we are going to win some ball games. No DVD, Book, PowerPoint, Blog or self-named website is going to do it for us. Football is a simple game that some people want to try and make really complex. Teams that are the most physical, Block the best, Tackle the best and make the LEAST number of mistakes WIN!!!

WHY RPO’S 1. Run/Pass Option 2. Are you Pre-Snap and/or Post Snap? 3. Do you have a great decision maker? 4. Allows you to manipulate the numbers in the box? 5. Attack Level 1,2,3 defenders 6. Allow your players to “get into” the right play post snap-Still allows us to stay in tempo---Quick form of an audible 7. Tempo=Displacement & Exhaustion, RPO’s=Confliction 8. You can let it compliment any of your runs—Game Plan week to week 9. Good on 2nd and Long & 3rd and Medium(4-7) 10. You can’t date this!! Gotta be in with it!!

RPO Evolution Warning-Things learned in 3 years * 186 RPO calls-3141 yards passing in 2015—Too many in retrospect * 112 RPO calls—1900 yards passing in 2016 * 131 RPO call—2400 yards passing in 2017 * Becomes another form of Play-Action * You have to have a great decision maker at QB-Be ready to take shots * Danger of Illegal Man Downfield—Point of Emphasis in 2017 * Do NOT fall in Love with this!!! * It has to compliment what you do. It started to become who we were in 2015!!! Led to more limited calls in 2016 & 2017
