SNA’s LSWP Resources Evaluation Implementation of Policies Policy Development Process Since 2005 we have tried to develop our LSWP resources based on different aspects of the LSWP process beginning with helping our members understand the regulatory aspects of LSWPs, to the development of policies, and currently in understanding implementation and evaluation of aspects of these policies. First, Providing educational resources and information to our members and Second, Collecting (or tracking) information throughout the different stages of the process to aid in understanding of the polices and to help develop and locate the most useful educational resources. I will briefly go through each of these stages and summarize what SNA has done both from an educational resources section and the information that has been collected. SNA’s LSWP Resources TRACKING: Policy Development Progress (survey Jan 2006) Collection & Analysis of Policies - Foundation for the Future I & II EDUCATION: Conference Sessions Policy Development Process The second stage was helping school districts and especially school nutrition directors through the policy development process. In Jan 2006 we conducted a survey with sn directors to find out if they had started to develop a policy as well as learning what was being included in these policies. SNA’s LSWP Resources EDUCATION: Webinar on Successful Practices (March 2007) Conference Sessions Wellness Booklet (Jan 2008) Implementation of Policies TRACKING: Implementation Survey – From Cupcakes to Carrots (Sept 2007) Currently we are focused on the implementation stage of these policies. We found that there was a fair amount of variation in the types of wellness policies being implemented, especially in the types of programs being included. Because of this variation, our education resource efforts are focused on faciliating communication between school nutrition programs to help them learn from those who have overcome hurdles and/or had successes in 2005 2006 2007 2008

This report is the fourth in a series where SNA has focused on different issues related to local school wellness policies. The first was on policy development, the second and third were on what is included in policies, and this report focuses on the implementation status of lswp and the impact they are having on school nutrition programs. Not focused on best practices mainly interested in sharing information on what people are doing. NDC has supported many of these lswp reports.

This report is the fourth in a series where SNA has focused on different issues related to local school wellness policies. The first was on policy development, the second and third were on what is included in policies, and this report focuses on the implementation status of lswp and the impact they are having on school nutrition programs. SNA’s LSWP Resources Evaluation 2005 2006 2007 2008 First in July we released the School Nutrition Operations Report. This report is based on a survey of school nutrition directors and covers many different facets of operations.
