Presentation transcript:

Wednesday 1/16/19 Bell ringer: What would happen to these two drinks if they sat on a counter for 2 hours? Why would this happen? Yesterday we had to wait for a few minutes before we started to see the poppy seeds move up in the water. Why do you think this happened? Why did they not start moving sooner?

How does heat affect the motion of a fluid? Finish Analysis questions? Turn in your packet?

What is heat?

Types of Heat Transfer Tree Chart Heat transfer goes in the middle, branching out to the three types. Other bubbles off of it can include examples or features of that type. For example, conduction could be mood ring, thermometer, or hot sand on bare feet. It could also be that things have to be touching.

Heat transfer between materials that are touching Conduction Heat transfer between materials that are touching

Transfer of energy that is carried in rays like light. Radiation Transfer of energy that is carried in rays like light.

Heat transfer by the movement of a fluid (liquid or a gas) Convection Heat transfer by the movement of a fluid (liquid or a gas) FLUIDS can be liquid OR gas. In science, it means both.

Mood Ring- What type of heat transfer? A mood ring is a ring that contains a thermochromic element, such as liquid crystal, that changes colors based upon the temperature of the finger of the wearer.

Add examples from the reading to your tree chart. Task Read and do pages 18-19 Add examples from the reading to your tree chart.
