Presentation transcript:

Financial Empowerment for Student Success Lessons from the ATD-MDC-Bank of America Partnership

MDC-ATD-Bank of America Partnership Partnership is a two year engagement Grants to three pilot colleges Community College of Baltimore County Houston Community College Los Angeles Harbor College Technical assistance to participating colleges Establishment of learning network Publication of learning paper

MDC-ATD-Bank of America Partnership Each of the pilot colleges have pursued different approaches Houston Community College: Financial literacy components in student success courses and financial literacy fairs Los Angeles Harbor: Targeting a specific cohort of students CC of Baltimore County: Increased financial coaching

Some preliminary lessons learned Incorporating volunteers into plans has been challenging Getting buy in from college administration is incredibly important Fostering collaboration – or at the very least, connection – between student services and academic departments is key for campus-wide change Leveraging resources for support of these activities is critical Showing impact of financial empowerment programs beyond individual interventions is extremely difficult No two programs look exactly alike—and that’s OK!
