Welcome to 6th Grade Math Ms. Quimby

Meet Ms. Quimby This is my 10th year teaching math at NMS. I am a mom of 2 little girls; Allison (age 2…going on 16) and Abigail (Age 5 months). My family and I live in Macedon and we love going to Lollipop Farm and Egypt Park.

My child struggles in math. This is the most common thing I hear from parents. Please remember, your child is so much more than their math grade. We will get through this together. If you would like to set up a parent conference with all of your child’s teachers, please let me know or contact the counseling office!

Math Binder Required to have a 2-inch binder with 6 tab dividers (1 for each module). No math textbook We are basically writing our own. All notes, classwork, extra practice, entrance/exit tickets, etc., will be kept in their math binder. Students are required to bring their binder to class every day and take it home each night to STUDY (at least 10 minutes)!!!!! *It is my hope that the math binder will also help PARENTS…I know math isn’t the way it used to be (even for me)! PLEASE CHECK IT OUT!

Communication Please don’t wait for me to contact you if you have a concern. You know your child best. Stacey.quimby@newarkcsd.org (315) 332-3290 Parent Portal Class Dojo I highly recommend getting on Parent Portal. You can… Check Grades See what work is missing If you have questions about what you see, please call or e-mail. Used as a Starbucks bank Kids earn Starbucks for… Attendance Participation Positive Behavior I don’t use it as a behavior management system.

Weekly HW and Math Monday Weekly Homework Math Monday Given out on Wednesday due the following Tuesday. Be Proactive…don’t wait until Monday night to start it! 2 Grades… Effort (complete and all work shown) Accuracy (how many are correct) In addition, your child must be studying at least 10 minutes per night from their math binder. If your child needs help with the weekly homework… STAY FOR MATH MONDAY!!!! All are welcome and there is transportation home. I have only had 2 kids stay so far. If Monday doesn’t work…I am available other days. Check the sign up sheets.

Grading Policy I use multipliers for grading instead of points or weighting. Tests (.4): Worth the most Quizzes (.2): Two quizzes = One test Homework (.1): Four Homework = One test Classwork (.1): Four Classwork = One Test Tests will be given once per quarter. Quizzes will be given about every other week. every SINGLE-block Friday.

Extra Credit Study Log Vocabulary I highly recommend this one! Students MUST be studying for 10 minutes a night as part of their homework. If students get proof, then they earn an extra credit point each time they get an adult signature. You can download one from my website if your child forgets to bring it home. Bring in a REAL-WORLD object for our vocabulary inferencing board. 10 bonus points for each object. Can be used towards any assignment.
