Collaborative Culture Learning at High Levels Educator Self-Efficacy Success at the Next Level 3. Collaborative Culture 1. Relationships 2. Learning at High Levels 1 2 3 4 Results We believe that RELATIONSHIPS are fundamental in all aspects of our lives. We accept LEARNING at high levels as the basic/main purpose of our school district We cultivate a COLLABORATIVE CULTURE through the development of HIGH PERFORMING TEAMS. We assess our effectiveness on the basis of RESULTS rather than intentions. Measures Performance Educator Self-Efficacy Climate PLC Teams
PLC’s serve two purposes: 1 PLC’s serve two purposes: 1. Ensure high levels of learning for all students. 2. Vehicles for job-embedded, learning-centered, continuous improvement. How would we measure? We needed to identify indicators and performance levels to measure team performance
Focus on Collaboration Indicator Beginning Emerging Proficient Accomplished Focus on Collaboration (High Performing Teams) members generally work in isolation but occasionally share practices that have been effective in their classrooms. Team members seldom demonstrate a sense of collective responsibility for all students. Team members may have established norms, but they are seldom referred to or followed. Team members display some trust and respect some of the time but lack transparency on improvement issues. Teams meet less than 60 minutes per week. Focus on Learning (Learning @ High Levels) Focus on Results (Results) Focus on Action (Student Data & Inquiry) Indicators: Collaboration: Working together effectively. Developing High Levels of Trust, Respect, & Transparency. ACCEPTING COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIGH LEVELS OF LEARNING FOR ALL STUDENTS Isolation: I have my kids and I will get them over the bar. I have a large group of a particular subgroup so my scores will be lower this year…… Focus on Learning: Staff is committed to answering the essential questions: 1. What do we want students to learn. 2. How will we know if they have learned it? 3. What will we do if they haven’t learned it? 4. What will we do if they already learned it? Focus on Results: Assessing professional performance based on evidence. Improving student achievement through data analysis (what evidence do we have that the student does not know how to…..find examples it wasn’t good enough to say a student doesn’t do his homework so he can’t factor a quadratic. Focus on Action: Using student data / EVIDENCE to impact instructional decisions Taking action based on inquiry and research. Inquiry - while examining student evidence…….asking….what can we do about these students who….demonstrate mastery….who have not mastered….who seem to already understand the content?
Focus on Collaboration
Focus on Learning The purpose of this indicator to become a district / a school / a grade level / that does not leave learning to chance.
Focus on Results I love how Dufour puts it……. “School will not know whether or not all students are learning unless educators are hungry for evidence that students are acquiring the knowledge and skills. Relentless commitment to ‘learning’
Focus on Action
Accomplished Proficient Emerging Beginning ASK BETTER QUESTIONS: Are assessments for learning aligned to the essentials? We are encouraging better questions: Are assessments used by students and teachers during learning? What did you notice as you were completing the rubric? Where have you progressed the most? What helped you? Where is progress slower? – What could help you/us? How will you move forward with this information?
