Caffeine and the Nervous System Read the article on caffeine and the nervous system. Answer: Should caffeinated beverages be served in schools? Using information from the article, write a brief paragraph answering this question. Be sure to include your claim, evidence, and reasoning. You have 15 minutes.

Nervous System—Flow Chart The nervous system gathers information from inside and outside the body, transmits information to the processing areas of the brain and spine, processes the information in the brain and spine, and sends information to the muscles, glands, and organs so they can respond appropriately. The nervous system is divided into two main divisions—the Central Nervous System, or CNS, and the Peripheral Nervous System, or PNS. The CNS is your control/integrating center aka your brain and spinal cord, while your PNS are your nerves, which connect your CNS to glands, muscles, and sensory receptors. The Peripheral nervous system is further divided into the somatic nervous system (voluntary—relays information to and from skin and skeletal muscles) and the autonomic nervous system (involuntary— relays information to internal organs). The autonomic nervous system is further divided into the sympathetic nervous system, which controls organs in times of stress, and the parasympathetic nervous system, which controls organs when the body is at rest.
