Vocabulary Scale drawings and scale models are used to represent objects that are too large or too small to be drawn or built at actual size. The scale gives the ratio that compares the measurements on the drawing or model which are proportional to the measurements of the real object.

Find Actual Measurements 1. A scale model of a firefly has a scale of 1 inch = 0.125 inch. If the length of the firefly on the model is 3 inches, what is the actual length of the firefly?

Find Actual Measurements 2. On a map of Arizona, the distance between Meadview and Willow Beach is 14 inches. If the scale on the map is 2 inches = 5 miles, what is the actual distance between Meadview and Willow Beach?

On Your Own… On a set of blueprints, the scale is 2 inches = 3 feet. Find the actual length of each object on the drawing. 1. 2. 3.
