Presentation transcript:

Class Agenda TODAY’s PLAN: Today’s TaSK: EQ: What causes Earth’s materials to change? LT: Develop and use models to obtain information about the rock cycle SC: To identify the 2 factors (Variables) that cause rock changes Initial Thoughts #2 Complete Part 3 of the lab

Initial thoughts #2 1. Where is the pressure coming from to change the rock? 2. What causes metamorphic rock to be formed? 3. Draw or explain where you think the source of heat is coming from to change the sedimentary rock into metamorphic rock.

CLASS Discussion – How does heat and pressure change a rock into a metamorphic rock? A. Where is sedimentary rock in this picture? b. how does it become sedimentary rock? c. Where do you think the source of heat comes from?

Procedure Follow the directions exactly on the worksheet SAFETY IS CRITICAL!!!!!!! REMEMBER: This is a test & counts as 50% of your grade

Day 2 Materials 1. Look over materials on your table. 2. Is there any materials missing according to the list below? 3. Who is the team leader today? Sedimentary rock (from day 1) aluminum foil (try to keep for day 3)

Procedure (Day 2) Finish part 3, then raise hand to check with teacher. make sure all students record and clean up. Stay at your table when done and work on zooniverse if Part 3 of worksheet is complete. Teacher remember to intro for tomorrow on the following slides, so students can work right away on the lab.

Pressure As sediments pile up they put pressure on lower sediments and smash them together to make sedimentary rocks. Near sinkholes, there are certain types of sedimentary rocks.
