Analysing and Writing a review. Wednesday, 08 May 2019

TITLE: “GRIPPING TALE OF ICE AND MEN” Reviews serve the same purpose – what sorts of reviews can you name? Consider the purpose of a review. How do the words chosen signpost the purpose? You may want to refer to the “placemat” in your folders. In pairs, copy the headline and analyse the words for their power and purpose.

Review We will now read the review as a class: film review 6.2.doc Do you remember this from an earlier lesson? As we read it, note words or phrases that have been chosen for one of the purposes we have discussed. Is this a “good” review? Why?

Another review: Look at this review and decide what you feel are its strengths: FILM REVIEW.doc In pairs, compare the two reviews and list points that you find to be common to the two pieces of writing.

HOMEWORK: Write a “checklist” of the features of a good film review. What would you change or add if you were writing a book review? Look at sequencing of ideas and rhetorical devices in particular.
