Indigenous Education Presentation: Indigenous Education and the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

Year 11 English: Text Response Area of Study: Reading and Responding Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird. Formative assessments are critical, summative assessment also takes place in class in exam conditions.

Students will need to demonstrate key knowledge and skills – on completion of the unit, students should be able to identify and discuss key aspects of a set text and to construct a response.

All students are expected to read To Kill A Mockingbird before commencement of the unit. Classroom resources: Video, Handouts, Analysis materials.

Assessment of student work occurred throughout the lesson as well as through the collection of their homework. Studies show that formative assessment is the most important aspect of student learning – they are able to transform with guidance before summative assessment takes place.

Relationships Knowledge Tact

Relationships. Trust. Teachers need to know their students – not only to know how they learn but to also know what they can say without upsetting their students.

Knowledge. Know your stuff Knowledge. Know your stuff. You need to be confident – you need to be able to answer questions and follow tangents. Preparation prior to teaching a lesson is imperative.
