Presentation transcript:

My brother ate a garlicky snack. His breath was so gross. Objective: Create an original storyboard detailing the events of Thomas Moss’s lynching and Ida B. Well’s involvement. What is a plot event? A plot event is something that happens. In a story, they’re often connected by cause & effect. Let’s practice: 1. Read the sentences. 2. Figure out which events are connected by cause and effect. My brother ate a garlicky snack. His breath was so gross. He breathed close to my face. He ate some more of his snack. I told Mom he was bullying me. He got in trouble.

A plot event is something that happens. Objective: Create an original storyboard detailing the events of Thomas Moss’s lynching and Ida B. Well’s involvement. What is a plot event? A plot event is something that happens. In a story, they’re often connected by cause & effect. Read the Valentine’s Day story. Directions: 1. Get a strip or an arrow. 2. There are 7 plot events connected 3. If you have connecting events, line up (left to right) in order of how they’re connected. 4. If you have an arrow, line up between connecting plot events to show the cause & effect relationship. My Valentine’s Day Even though it was cold outside, my heart was filled with warmth. My girlfriend, Tia, is my everything, and I wanted to make sure she really knew it. I had bought several surprises to make sure she had an extra-special day: a teddy bear holding a dark chocolate candy heart, (that’s her favorite) along with a bracelet that she’d had her eye on for a long time. But when I arrived on campus, I was shocked to see a huge line in the front of school! What in the world was going on? Tia was right next to me, so I began to panic – what if she sees her surprises?! I started to sweat and my heart raced. When Mr. Holloway saw the teddy bear in my backpack, he confiscated it. And then you know what happened? He opened the candy and ATE it right in front of my face. My jaw dropped onto the ground. Then to make matters worse, the box holding the necklace set off the metal detector, so then I had to take THAT out and show that it wasn’t a threat – right in front of Tia. This was most definitely the WORST Valentine’s Day ever.

Objective: Create an original storyboard detailing the events of Thomas Moss’s lynching and Ida B. Well’s involvement. What is a plot event? A plot event is something that happens. In a story, they’re often connected by cause & effect. Directions: Count off 1 – 6 around the room. 1s will sit under the 1, 2s under the 2, etc. Each person gets a colored paper & your storyboard from last class. If you are a 1, your team needs to agree upon which is the first event from pp 121-123 that led Ida to write about the lynching. If you are a 2, the second event, etc. Write this agreed-upon event on your colored paper in dark-colored marker.

Turn to page 121, and begin reading the last paragraph on that page. Objective: Create an original storyboard detailing the events of Thomas Moss’s lynching and Ida B. Wells’s involvement. Directions: Turn to page 121, and begin reading the last paragraph on that page. 2. Infer: Why did Ida feel angry about Thomas’s lynching? 3. Continue reading through the end of the chapter. Create a storyboard: Get a sheet of colored paper. Fold it into half vertically - a hotdog fold. Fold it again the other way twice. You should open it & have 6 even sections. Draw lines in the creases. 4. Number your boxes 1-6. 5. In each box, write evidence that shows an event leading to Ida writing about her friend’s lynching. ( The last box should be the last sentence of the chapter. Ida with her friend Betty Moss, the widow of Thomas Moss, and Betty’s children, Thomas Jr. and Maurine. Ida was Maurine’s godmother. Thomas Moss was lynched by a mob in 1892.
