Lesson Goal: Learn about correct word usage. Outcomes: Be able to . . . Identify four pairs of word that are commonly misused for each other. Apply the correct word usage in any given sentence. Determine which words are in error and which are used correctly in any given sentence.

In the upper right hand corner, write the following: Wed., March 20, 2019 QW #51: What I love most about . . . Copy and complete today’s title as your first sentence. What do you love most about one of your parents or grandparents? Include memorable anecdotes that support your points. Remember to write in complete sentences, avoiding fragments and run-ons. If you are not sure how to spell a certain word, just sound it out and circle it.
Starter #2: Today we are going to continue learning about correct word usage with four new pairs. . . . in means “inside” The pie was baking in the oven. into indicates an action toward the inside The batter hit the ball into the outfield.
Starter #3: The second two words are . . . its Its is the possessive form of it. The cat licked its paws after eating. it’s It’s is the contraction for “it is.” It’s a good idea to exercise regularly.
Starter #4: The third two words are . . . lay means “to place” You need to lay down that Frito Lay potato chip! lie means “to recline” The doctor told the patient to lie on the cot.
Starter #5: The fourth two words are . . . learn means “to gain knowledge” We learned a new word in Spanish. teach means “to give knowledge” Edward teaches his brother basketball plays.
