Optional Homework: Homework is not required unless I need a student to finish something. However, of course, it is always important to read with your child. Fluency is an important skill in 2nd grade. The more your child reads or is read to, the more fluent they will become. Students may participate in the school wide reading program if they are interested. You can also ask your child questions as you read or have them retell the story to you. This is another important skill. Other options: Writing- Students are encouraged to write stories, poems, mini-books, comic strips, etc. Spelling will be more prevalent this semester. Students may write sentences with words, stories with words, or put words in alphabetical order. Math-Students may practice math facts, skip count, count money, or practice writing and solving word problems. Social Studies or Science – Students may pick a topic or historical figure to write a report about to turn in or even present to the class, or you can be creative and make a poster or art project or power point to go with a subject. Misc. - Students could create a game that goes with a subject that we are studying. Students may bring in an object that is educational and tell the class about it. (Fridays only) Any homework can be turned in on Friday and my be presented to the class. Students can earn Dojo points for homework.
