JACC 2018;j.jacc.2018.02.016 Diagram Showing the Estimated Decreasing Intensity of X-Ray Exposure With Depth Within the Subject In this example, (right anterior oblique projection), the beam enters the left side of the subject’s back. Beam intensity decreases with depth within the subject due to a combination of beam divergence with distance (inverse square law) and absorption within the subject. The overall effect of these processes is to attenuate the beam intensity that exits the subject to 5% or less of the incident intensity. Writing Committee Members et al.
