Wizard Newsletter October 9, 2018 Owl Post PS 111 Wizards of 1-211 4440 West 53rd St. New York City Wizard Newsletter Reading-We are coming to an end with our Building Good Habits unit! We have been working hard at learning how to solve words that are difficult for us in our books. Strategies we’re learning is breaking words up into chunks we know, skipping it and seeing what missing word makes sense, checking our words and doing a double check, and also using the picture to help us identify what the challenging word is. Writing – In Topic 4 (Bend Four), each child selects a piece he or she wants to publish. The students will learn revising and editing strategies to make their writing better. They will also “fancy up” their writing by making a cover page, adding details and color to illustrations. Math – Students will begin their investigations in finding different ways to decompose numbers up to 10. This will allow students to become fluent with ways to make numbers easier for them to use during our math talks or to solve mental math equations. We will discuss different methods of solving double digit addition problems during our Number Talks time. Happy Monday, Families! I hope everyone enjoyed their 3 day weekend!
