Ratio Ratio is the quotient of two quantities. Ratio can be written in three notations Fraction notation To notation a to b Colon notation a : b
Example Write the ratio 25:39 in to notation. Write the ratio ¾ in colon notation Write the ratio 2.5 to 1.6 in fraction notation
Example Find the ratio of the width to the perimeter given the swimming pool below.
Rate A special type of ratio is a rate. Rates are used to compare different kinds of quantities.
Example Given the statement 5 shrubs every 15 feet Write the rate as a fraction then simplify.
Example Given the statement 8 phone lines for 36 employees Write the rate as a fraction then simplify.
Unit Rate A rate where the denominator reduces down to one, if needed divide with decimals.
