Purpose of the Presentation To discuss details of recent bill for the Desegregation Matter To update the Board on communications with the DAC, the DOJ, and the Court. To give an update on the status of each Green factor.

Bill through January 25th Total Charges for Consent Order Legal Services: $27,237.50 Total Number of Professional Hours: 153.90

What Kinds of Work Do We Do? Last Board meeting, there was some confusion about the hour figure in the previous slide. For this report, we have categorized hours into four categories: Reporting Compliance Implementation Communications

Examples of Each Type Reporting Compliance Completing requests for information from the DAC and the DOJ. Completing documents for the Court. Compliance Answering questions from staff concerning particular issues. Addressing questions that are not directly answered by the Consent Order but are affected by it.

Examples of Each Type Implementation Communications Help personnel with implementing new sections of the Consent Order. Work with Superintendent and Deputies to develop ways to implement the Consent Order in new or different ways. Communications Calls, emails, and letters with DOJ and DAC

January Communications Date Participants & Communication Type General Topics 1/5/18 DOJ Attorneys – Emails We ensured that the DOJ was aware of the planned DAC community meetings at the Cavalry Hill Community Center on January 10th (LHS and NCTHS feeder) and Weatherly Heights Baptist Church on January 11th (GHS feeder).  1/8/18 Additional communication with the DOJ about the logistics for the DAC meetings. 1/9/18 Worked with Keith Ward and the DOJ attorneys to ensure that the DOJ attorneys could listen in to the DAC community meetings. 1/10/18 Attendance at DAC Community Meeting We had continued communications with the DOJ attorneys concerning their ability to participate in the DAC meetings.  Additionally, attended the DAC Community Meeting at Cavalry Hill Community Center. 1/11/18 Attended the DAC Community Meeting at Weatherly Heights Baptist Church. 1/12/18 Carlos Gonzalez – Emails The DOJ attorneys informed us that they wanted to check in with the DAC’s chairperson.  Carlos Gonzalez informed us that he would be visiting the DAC during the week of Jan. 15th.  1/16/18 Carlos Gonzales let us know that he had to cancel his visit with the DAC due to the winter weather.  He informed us  that he would let us know about his plans to make-up the meeting with the DAC.

January Communications Date Participants & Communication Type General Topics 1/22/18 DOJ Attorneys – Emails The DOJ attorneys contacted us to let us know that they were part of the government shutdown. 1/23/18 DOJ attorneys let us know that they were back at the office. 1/24/18 DAC Chairperson DOJ Attorneys We completed the first part of a request for information for the DAC and sent it to them via email and included the DOJ attorneys in that communication. 1/25/18 The DOJ attorneys had questions about a response to their requests for information sent on December 22, 2017. 1/26/18 We completed the rest of a request for information for the DAC and sent it to them via email and included the DOJ attorneys in that communication.

Status of Particular Green Factors

The Green Factors As mentioned last time, the factor currently being considered for preparation of a Unitary Status motion is facilities. As a reminder, we note Ms. Watkins request to walk the facilities prior to completing the Motion.
