Aim: How cell membrane organized?
Introduction to Cell Transport and the Cell Membrane
Cellular Transport How Molecules Are Transported Across The Cell Membrane.
(Phospholipid Bilayer). The Cell Membrane is Semi-Permeable or Selectively Permeable. This means it only allows certain substances to enter/exit the cell.
Chapter 7: Cells.  1) Regulates what goes in and out  (selectively permeable- some molecules too large or too strongly charged to cross while others.

Notes on The Cell Membrane

Purposes: Holds cell together Provides protection Controls movement in and out of a cell Selectively permeable – some substances can pass through, others cannot Permeable to O2, H2O, CO2 Not permeable to large molecules (glucose, lipids, amino acids) and salt

Structure 2 layers of molecules (bilayer) Made of phospholipids Hydrophilic heads touch water Hydrophobic tails touch each other Proteins studded throughout the bilayer Make pores to let things in and out

The phospholipid bilayer Hydrophilic heads touch water Hydrophobic tails touch each other

At the bottom of your notes, Write a 1 paragraph summary: what does the cell membrane look like?
