Third Grade Newsletter GIFTED GAZETTE 3.0 Jan. 3rd – Jan. 5th What we’re learning this week… Vocabulary & Test Schedule Reading: This week we will… read Chapters 1-4 in Because of Winn Dixie identify important vocabulary and summarize our reading identify dialogue and point of view investigate shades of meaning of synonyms Language/Writing: identify main verbs and helping verbs create a “Friend Wanted” poster, will be completed next week Spelling: none Math: This week we will… continue with concepts of area and perimeter begin our Area/Perimeter Dream Homes Project of the Week (P.O.W.): New Year in-class assignment due Friday Research: Students will interview grandparents/parents with focus questions about the importance of friendships. Students will begin making a list of interview questions in class. We will discuss interview etiquette and how to turn interview answers into a presentation. Students will have choice in presenting their findings to the class either through audio/videotaped recording, PowerPoint, essay, etc… More details to follow soon! Reading: Because of Winn Dixie graded classwork Vocabulary: Will come from BofWD this week. Language: “Friend Wanted” Poster will be a graded assignment Spelling: Assessed through writing. Students are expected to consult dictionaries, peer editors, and computer resources to monitor spelling when writing.
