RESICT: Overall Academic Objective Contributing to the development of the ICT industry in Cuba and its scientific impact in the priority domains for development by means of the cooperation between Cuban universities based on the academic exchange and the development of joint research and their relations with Flemish universities.
INTERMEDIATE RESULTS IR1: Scientific background and practical skills of the Cuban staff and specialists related to ICT is strengthened. IR2: The research activity in ICT is enabling the transfer of new know-how to the Cuban ICT industry and the informatization of Cuban society. IR3: Management of the project.
RESICT: Scientific results Scientific background and practical skills of Cuban staff and specialists related to ICT is strengthened. The scientific production of several Cuban centers, and the novelty of these is increased, and their relevance to solve real problem could support the development of new software and applications based on ICT.
RESICT: Main quality indicators PhD thesis presented in Cuba and Belgium. Papers in international journal, and international conferences. Research awards. Number of social and economic impacts. Quantity of specialists related with the software industry and the informatization process in the Master and PhD programs. Economical contracts and other agreements.
RESICT: Main activities Joint PhD students. Training of Cuban PhD students and Cuban staff in Belgium. Activities of Flemish faculties in Cuba. Participation in international conferences. Organization of seminars, meeting and workshops. Purchase of equipments, books, office material and other goods.
PhD formation IR1: Scientific background and practical skills of the Cuban staff and specialists related to ICT is strengthened. Activity 1.1: Development of a course package for Cuban specialists to reach a solid background in Computer Science supported by an ICT learning environment. Activity 1.2: A group of Cuban specialists develop their PhD degree at Flemish universities in order to be exposed to new ICT paradigms. Activity 1.3: Cuban PhD students develop research trainings in Cuban or Flemish universities to complement the research.
PhD School Activity 1.1: Development of a course package for Cuban specialists to reach a solid background in Computer Science supported by an ICT learning environment. A PhD school was held at UCI during January-March 2014. 13 courses were developed. 10 Flemish faculties from VUB, KUL, and Univ of Hasselt taught courses. Cuban faculties from UCLV, UCI and UC taught courses. 39 Cuban students attended to the courses from several universities (UCI, UCLV, UPr, UC, UO, U Las Tunas, U Santi Spiritus). 12 students were selected to apply for the Joint PhDs. 5 students were selected as Joint PhD (4 VUB, 1 KUL); selection process at UCI in September 2014; they have developed two periods in Flemish universities.
