It is VERY important that you check your child’s folder EVERY day. Folders It is VERY important that you check your child’s folder EVERY day. I will send notes, communications and information along with homework in the folder, please remember to check folders daily. Blue Daily folder - to carry, papers, notes, homework, reading log, etc.): - records or his or her nightly reading assignments -Keep at Home will have items for your information to be kept at home -Return to school will have items that need your signature or response and homework Planner - will have daily conduct sheet: -Should be signed DAILY this will reflect your child’s daily behavior, AR, and any notes to or from the teacher. 2 Graded Work Folders: I will send this folder home once a week with their graded work from the previous week. Please sign and return all papers marked 74 and below. Sign and return the folder the next day!!

Homework Keep in Folder Language Arts Homework: All homework is due Friday.   Reading passage on back Spelling Words Practice Vocabulary Practice Review Grammar Review DOL on Thursday’s Math Homework (Monday –Thursday, Return Friday) One column per day. Show work on the back of the math homework. There is a place to check your daily progress. At times there will be pages from the textbook.

Writing Rubric Beg. Of the Year Score 100 I have all of the requirements. I write 5 or more complete sentences. I capitalize at the beginning of my sentences. I use punctuation at the end of my sentences. I use my best handwriting. I stayed on topic. *Move to 8 sentences mid year. 90 I have 4 of the requirements 80 I have 3 of the requirements. 70 I have 2 of the requirements 60 I have 1 or none of the requirements

Reading and AR I recommend that parents encourage their child to read every night and when possible read with or to your child. Once we begin our Accelerated Reading program; nightly reading will be required, so it’s a good habit to start now if you don’t do so already. Middle of September your child will bring home their first set of library books for the year. 2nd Grade – 1st and 2nd nine weeks – 10 NF and 10 F @ 85% 3rd and 4th nine weeks – 12 NF and 12 F @85% *8 chapter books for the year* – 8 Chapter books for the year* at least 2 per nine weeks **Goals are divided up so your student will be working towards a weekly goal depending on their reading level. They will need to test on 2-4 books per week (at 85% or higher)and this will be discussed during AR conferencing with each student individually. I will take at least 1 grade per 9 weeks. Incentives During the School Year- Bookmarks, extra recess, dress passes, mid year goal party, game time, certificates, free time for meeting weekly goal, etc. End of Year Reward Mystery Field Trip
