Exploring Liberating Structures Date – Time: 1 hour Facilitators: xx and xx Sound Check: Please do the Audio Setup Wizard before the session starts Hook up your headset with mic Go through the Audio setup wizard While waiting, say “Hi” by typing in the chat near the bottom of the left side

TRIZ Invitation: What should you stop doing to ensure that you’re fairly assessing students? Overview of Process: Reflect on own (2 min) - “list of how to get to the worst result” Move to breakout rooms in pairs according to chart and discuss (5 min) - “are we doing anything on our lists?” Come back to the main room when the timer goes Move to breakout rooms in fours according to chart and discuss (10 min) - “what steps will help us stop doing those things?” Come back to main room when the timer goes Whole group debrief (8 min) Note: What you will be thinking about/discussing is slightly different at each stage of the process…we’ll give this to you.

STEP 1: INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION (2 min) On your own, make a list of all you can do to make sure you achieve the worst result imaginable with respect to fair assessment of students. (In other words, what things can you do to make sure you’re assessing students really unfairly?)

STEP 2: PAIRS DISCUSSION (5 min) In your breakout room, as a pair, do the following: Talk briefly about your Step 1 lists with this in mind: Is anything that you are currently doing (in your teaching) that in any way, shape or form resembles the items on your list? Make one new list together of the things you are doing that could be causing unfair assessment. Room Pair 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Tip: When you move to a Room or return to Main Room, click the Talk button!

STEP 3: FOURS DISCUSSION (10 min) In your breakout room, in your foursome, do the following: Each person choose one thing on their pairs list to share, sharing also: What steps will help you stop doing the thing that causes the unfair assessment? Make sure everyone gets a chance to share Room Four 1 2 3 4 5 Tip: When you move to a Room or return to Main Room, click the Talk button!
