Box and Whisker Plots

Box and Whisker Plots Definitions: Box and Whisker Plot – Is a data display that shows how data are distributed by using the median, quartiles, and the minimum and maximum values. Quartiles – Represent three values of a set of data that breaks the data into four sections. One is the median (2nd quartile), while the others are the 1st quartile (the median of the lower half of the data) and the 3rd quartile (the median of the upper half of the data). Each quartile represents 25% of the data. Variation – Represents the spread of the data. Interquartile Range (IQR) – Is the range of the 1st to 3rd quartiles (the middle 50%).
