Research Generally positive Some Negative aspects of technology: (not used for academics by students, not all students have access to the resources, software/hardware problems, internet connectivity, etc.) Generally positive Multimedia learning – hearing, watching, experiencing the same info using multiple senses Quizzing – highly supported method of studying Metacognition – understanding how well you know information, how you learn Engagement – more focus and attention in the classroom Multimedia – listening to lecture, watching video, writing responses to questions/taking notes, etc. Quizzing – lots of technology for that

In the Classroom Plickers – Less technology needed by students; better for group use, in the classroom; premade answer cards on amazon Kahoot – $0-$3 permonth. Mostly games, as well as quizzes; best used in classroom; Looks better for k-12? Gimkit – Free (Up to 5 games, ‘core’ features). Game-show style quizzing, made by hs student; students earn “money”, can use to gain access to more review questions, etc. Nearpod – Free (Up to 40 participants). Immediate feedback during class, multiple assessment styles (quizzing, polls, open-ended, fill-in- the-blank, matching). Create interactive full lessons TopHat – Create interactive textbooks! Podcasts The Learning Scientists – how the brain works, study tips, etc. TED talks College Info Geek - tips on studying, landing jobs, being productive, giving speeches, etc. Freakonomics – a Psychology/Economics combo Stuff You Missed in History Class - a fun way to learn about interesting, lesser- known yet important historical events The Naked Scientists - approachable explanation to common scientific topics This American Life - Each episode has a theme—which might be anything from the housing crisis to cars or stories from summer camp. Let’s Know Things / Stuff You Should Know – random info about the world 11:00 – 11:03 Least amount of effort for instructors – EC assignment, “find a podcast related to our class topic”, write a summary/ response, etc.
