Nationals Course Structure The National 4 course contains internally assessed units and an Added Value Unit. This will require the learner to demonstrate depth of understanding and/or application of skills. Internally assessed. For National 5 the course will include an external assessment. This will sample breadth, depth and application from across the Course. The external assessment & coursework element will be graded (A – D).
Breadth and Depth Pupils study a minimum of 6 qualifications. Free guided choice. English and Maths. Choice of 4 further subjects to continue with from S3. Most pupils will look to continue with a subject from S3. 7th core option.
Core Option All pupils have an entitlement within the curriculum to PE, PSE and RMPS. *PE (2 x periods) *RMPS (1x periods) PSE (1x periods) * additional NQ Accreditation option available
NQ Accreditation option National 4/5 PE. Taught through core PE + 2 x periods Option 2 NQ RMPS. Taught through core RMPS + 2 x periods. Option 3 PE – Health & Wellbeing qualifications Taught through core + 2 x periods. Options
Supported Curriculum Enhanced curriculum opportunities available for pupils with ASN profile. Choice process managed through discussion with guidance/ASN staff. Range of courses available from N3 upwards along with supported tutorials available.
S4 College Experience Students can attend college courses on a Wednesday alongside their normal school timetable. Application process supported by guidance staff in school. Courses on offer: Motor Mechanics, Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, Construction Crafts.
