Welcome to Kemnay Academy S3 Parents’ Information Evening

Curriculum in the Senior Phase Building a portfolio of qualifications gathered over a two or three year period. The beginning of National Qualifications and SQA accreditation.

Nationals Course Structure The National 4 course contains internally assessed units and an Added Value Unit. This will require the learner to demonstrate depth of understanding and/or application of skills. Internally assessed. For National 5 the course will include an external assessment. This will sample breadth, depth and application from across the Course. The external assessment & coursework element will be graded (A – D).

Breadth and Depth Pupils study a minimum of 6 qualifications. Free guided choice. English and Maths. Choice of 4 further subjects to continue with from S3. Most pupils will look to continue with a subject from S3. 7th core option.

Core Option All pupils have an entitlement within the curriculum to PE, PSE and RMPS. *PE (2 x periods) *RMPS (1x periods) PSE (1x periods) * additional NQ Accreditation option available

NQ Accreditation option National 4/5 PE. Taught through core PE + 2 x periods Option 2 NQ RMPS. Taught through core RMPS + 2 x periods. Option 3 PE – Health & Wellbeing qualifications Taught through core + 2 x periods. Options

Supported Curriculum Enhanced curriculum opportunities available for pupils with ASN profile. Choice process managed through discussion with guidance/ASN staff. Range of courses available from N3 upwards along with supported tutorials available.

S4 College Experience Students can attend college courses on a Wednesday alongside their normal school timetable. Application process supported by guidance staff in school. Courses on offer: Motor Mechanics, Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, Construction Crafts.

Course Choice Form Pupils to identify courses that they would like to study in order of preference. Discuss choices and level of study with guidance teacher. Identify ‘Core option’ Identify 2 reserve options
