ESW-Pitt Restructuring Amy Scarbrough als153@pitt.edu
Last year … We had sporadic and poorly announced general body meetings in ever-changing locations to which nobody ever came…so nobody ever talked to anyone else!
teams didn’t realize they were part of a bigger organization. Our project teams didn’t realize they were part of a bigger organization. And our campus didn’t realize we existed
What we did about it: invoked a sense of ESW as a community made sure members felt acknowledged, appreciated, and busy! Interacted with our campus Developed a plan to leave behind an active and aware leadership
Turning ESW into a community Regular GBMs Always started with project updates Regularly provided snacks Got T-shirts Threw social events Obviously, this involved increasing our membership by getting folks involved! Hard push with tabling! Didn’t see any decrease in membership halfway through the semester!
Acknowledging Members Always acknowledged help in GBMs Encouraged members to take on new projects and incentives … they are the future leaders of the organization! Made sure all officers and project leaders played an important role
Interacted with Campus Threw tabling events Kept everyone informed about campus events Threw a fundraiser Submitted grant proposals for smaller projects on campus
Will leave behind leaders Plan to create a binder full of simple how-tos and Pick leaders well before summer
Survey feedback “I like this club because things actually get done. Great energy Sweet improvements from last year! I’ve learned so much
Thanks for listening!
