Threatening Situations What Can You Do?

What are some threatening situations? When someone threatens or warns to harm or kill themselves When someone threatens to run away from home When someone threatens or warns to harm or kill someone else When someone threatens to damage or destroy property.

What can you do?? Tell a trusted adult on the phone or in person Write a note, email, or send a letter to a trusted adult. Tell someone at school like a counselor, teacher, or nurse. Tell a family member like a mom, dad, or older brother or sister Tell someone who answers the phone at a hotline service such as 1-800-4-A- Child. *Information adapted from Kid’s Health.org

Difference Between telling and tattling Tattling is when…. Telling is when… You let out a secret or gossip in order to try and get someone in trouble. This relates to non- emergency situations where no one is hurt or unsafe. You tell a secret or information in order to help yourself or someone else be safe. These events are more serious situations.

If you or someone you know is in trouble - It’s okay to TELL!!! Don’t keep those secrets! Find a trusted adult that can help you!

Your Turn to Try it Out! Scenario#1: You notice a friend at school is crying and has bruises on his face. He said his older brother beat him up. Scenario #2: A teammate on your soccer team is really upset that he lost the game. He tells you he is going to kill himself. Scenario #3: You overhear someone on the bus say they are going to hurt a classmate after school and steal their new I-phone. Scenario #4: You see some teenagers throwing rocks at some younger kids on the playground. The younger kids are crying and look hurt.
