Transformations Foldable

Rotations This part is glued into your notebook. Reflections Transformations Reflections Rotations Translations Dilations

(x , y) (- x, y) (x , y) (x, - y) Inside Reflections Flap A reflection is a transformation that produces a mirror image when a shape is reflected across a line. Reflection across the y axis rule: (x , y) (- x, y) Reflection across the x axis rule: (x , y) (x, - y)

(x, y) (- x, - y) (x, y) ( - y, x) (x, y) (y, -x) Inside Rotations Flap A rotation is when you turn a figure about a point. 90⁰ Clockwise Rotation About the Origin (x, y) (y, -x) 180⁰ Rotation About the Origin (x, y) (- x, - y) 90 ⁰ Counter Clockwise Rotation About the Origin(270⁰ clockwise) (x, y) ( - y, x)

Inside Translations Flap A translation is a transformation that moves a figure a certain distance in a given direction. X axis left (negative - ) or right(positive +) Y axis down(negative -) or up(positive +) Right four units and down 2 units (x, y) (x + 4), (y – 2)

Inside Dilations Flap A dilation is a type of transformation that changes the size of a figure by a scale factor. Triangle ABC is dilated by a scale factor of 2. (x, y) (2x, 2y)

Triangle ABC is translated 2 units right and 3 units down (red). Notice the red triangle is A’B’C’. Triangle A’B’C’ is reflected across the y axis (green). Notice the green triangle is A’’ B’’ C’’. This is because triangle ABC has gone through two transformations.

Practice Triangle ABC: A (0, 3), B(- 4, 8), C (- 2, 7) Do the two transformations on triangle ABC. Translate 1 unit left and 3 units up Reflect over the x axis

Closure Write the ordered pairs for A (6,9), B(-5,4), C(2,-1) After being reflected across the x axis and dilated by a scale factor 2.
