What is Perfmon From books online: Performance Monitor provides a visual display of built-in Windows performance counters, either in real time or as a way to review historical data Perfmon is a Windows native tool provided to have a visual representation of the different Windows Performance Counters, we can use for real time monitoring or to analyse historical performance data

How to use Perfmon Press start and type perfmon To open perfmon, simply press the start button and type perfmon or performance monitor

How to use Perfmon Performance Monitor and click Add Select from the list the counters we want Then we add the counters we want to monitor

How to use Perfmon Choose how to visualize them Line Histogram Report And then finally we choose the graph type

DEMO Here I have a perfmon session with some counters added already, you can see I can add more if I want, change the graph type and so on, But the problem is when I finish my session and I close the window, you can guess what happens. Now I open it again, and all the work to add the different counters is lost. But here is the cool tip, what if I tell you that there is a way to save our sessions so in case we need to come back, all counters are already available? To do so, we need to open perfmon in a different way, Perfmon is a management console snap-in, so we need to open it using mmc.exe Then we can add the counters as normal, and once we are happy with them, just click file-> save and once they are saved, we can open them Open the perfmon window open Close it and open again Close it and open the msc file Open mmc.exe Add snap in Add random counter Save as msc file -------END-------
