Presentation transcript:

NHS Scarborough and Ryedale Clinical Commissioning Group funds transport to healthcare appointments for people who are unable to travel by other means. This might be due to their medical condition or their mobility needs.

An aborted journey is when an ambulance is scheduled to transport a patient but it is cancelled at short notice, often after it has been dispatched. Last year, journeys aborted at short notice cost the NHS around £65,000 – just across Scarborough and Ryedale. Those ambulances were also unavailable for other patients who needed them.

Often, aborted journeys are due to the patient making their own way to their appointment or because of a cancelled appointment. Costly aborts can be easily avoided by informing Yorkshire Ambulance Service of a cancellation as early as possible.

Cancelling in good time will save tens of thousands of pounds for the NHS and ensure that ambulances are available for those who need them. As soon as you know the journey is not required, notify Yorkshire Ambulance Service by calling 0300 330 2000.
