Size class breakdown - issues SBS – size class Size class breakdown - issues

Size class breakdown – current situation SBS 0 - 9 10 - 49 50 - 249 > 250

Size breakdown – problem of thresold 0 - 9 10 - 49 50 - 249 > 250 Different thresholds in the BR imply non-comparable figures in that size band. Figures should not be added up to EU totals. Solution: A harmonised data series with a common (or comparable) threshold.

Size breakdown – current situation 0 - 9 10 - 49 50 - 249 > 250

Size breakdown – enterprises that are part of a group 0 - 9 10 - 49 50 - 249 > 250 In the different size bands, a share of enterprises belong to enterprise groups, that can have more than 250 employment less than 250 employment Possible Solution: Those enterprises that are part of a group, are shifted to the size class of the group. Problem: For non-domestic groups, this is not known

Size breakdown – enterprises that are part of a group – domestic or foreign 0 - 9 10 - 49 50 - 249 > 250 Enterprises belonging to enterprise groups, might be Affiliate of a domestic group Foreign affiliate

Size breakdown – the full picture 0 - 9 10 - 49 50 - 249 > 250 Proposal 1: Current data remain untouched. Proposal 2: A harmonised data set 0 – 9 with a common (or comparable) threshold. Proposal 3: A harmonised data set with a breakdown of the enterprises into: Independent enterprises Domestic affiliates Foreign affiliates Proposal 4: For the harmonised data sets – NACE 2-digit level
