Important Information for Students Fall 2014

New Rules You have one year to finish all of your foundation courses. (including the summer) If you do not finish your courses in 1 year, you will be suspended for 2 consecutive semesters. During this time, you must bring equivalent certificates from outside of the university (IELTS, Compass, Arabic Kafaa) to finish all Foundation courses. Certificates must be issued by centers accredited by the university.

New Rules (continued) Arabic courses are semester based. (2 levels) Math courses are 8 weeks. (number of levels depends on your college requirements) Level one students are not allowed to take any Math courses. There are 4 levels of English; each course is 8 weeks. To finish foundation English you need to get any of the following: CEPA 180, TOEFL ITP 500, TOEFL BT 61, IELTs 5.0 You will complete your college requirements after you finish English.

UFP Proficiency Criteria English ENGU 1401: English 1 Prerequisite: CEPA 150-159 ENGU 1402: English 2  Prerequisite: CEPA 160-169 or ENGU 1401 ENGU 1403: English 3  Prerequisite: CEPA 170-179 or ENGU 1402 ENGU 1404: English 4  Prerequisite: ENGU 1403 or ENGU 1404 = F (If you have enough chances)

How to achieve success? Attend all classes from the first day (the course is short so you cannot afford to miss a lesson). Be on time for class. Study from the first day. Do your homework on time. Always check with your teacher for deadlines and exam dates.

Number of Absences The number of absences you are allowed in the English courses has changed: Level 1 – 8 absences Level 2 – 10 absences Level 3 – 10 absences Level 4 – 7 absences This is the maximum number of absences you are allowed!! If you get more than this number, you cannot continue the course.

Attendance Rules You will be entered absent no matter what the reason is (i.e. sickness, family problems etc.). If you wish to contest an absence, your must go to registration in the Crescent Building – do not discuss it with your teacher. It is the students responsibility to check their attendance data on e-services. If you receive 15% and you have a valid reason for your absences, please go to see Salah in room H4-0042 or Saleha in room C5-1042. Please bring documentation to show why you were absent. At the end of the semester, a committee will meet to decide if you can get a withdrawal without failure.

We can help you achieve success There are many places on campus where you can get help. Just visit any of our centers. Students and teachers are there to help you understand your lessons. Do you feel you need help in a subject or skill? Did you fail an exam? Did your teacher tell you that you need to study more?

Where can you get help? Tutorial Center H4-0081 and C5- 0076 Speaking Center H4-0060 and C5-0019 Writing Center H4-0060 and C5 -0020 Independent Learning Center (ILC) H4 – 0074 and C5-0028 Math Testing Lab H4-0071, C5-0043 and C5-0045
