Think about your own schooling: What type of learner are you? What type of lessons appealed to you? Now think about what appeals to you when creating a lesson. Are the styles the same? How do you recognize learning styles in others?

Learning Styles Visual Verbal Auditory Visual Verbal Auditory/Musical

Kinesthetic Logical Social Solitary Kinesthetic/Physiological Logical/Mathematical Social Solitary – Note the stereotype? Many people are a combination of styles

Why should you use crafts in language lessons?

Craft activities cater to more learning styles simultaneously. Students who are generally more reluctant to participate in formal lessons tend to be more engaged in craft lessons. You can also use repetition with crafts that is more boring in a more formal setting of language teaching. Helps students to make meaning of the world and the language. Students focus on the craft instead of their linguistic insecurities. Repetition is done through instructions of the craft. The final product is an assessment of the students’ ability to understand and interpret instructions.
