Survey in Vierzon Four of us were in charge of a « micro-trottoir ». We went to the market on a Saturday morning and in town on a Wednesday afternoon to question people on their relationship with the forest. We had a questionnaire and a video camera. These are the results of our survey.
When we say « Forest », what are the three words that come to your mind? Trees Green Nature Mushrooms Oxygen Animals sport A lot of people lacked imagination on this first question! Trees and green are the most quoted answers, then comes nature, mushrooms, oxygen, animals and sport.
How often do you go to the forest? On this diagram, we can see that about 10% of the people leaving in Vierzon dont go to the forest at all. Nearly a third rarely while more than half of them often go to the forest. Vierzon is between the Sologne and the Berry which are two regions with lots forests.
Who do you go with? With your family With your friends A few people go to the forest alone, most of the time, they go with their families and friends.
Why do you go to the forest ? To go for a walk To collect mushrooms To practice a sport To hunt People go to the forest to go for walks, and to practise a sport, mostly running. We can notice that in our region, mushrooms and hunting are also very important activities, especially in the « Sologne » forest.

When you go to the forest, how often do you make sure that you don’t leave anything on the floor? This is interesting. Very few people say that they leave wastes inthe forests. When we went to the forests, we saw wastes, but they were gathered in particular places : along the roads and in places that had been used as squats.
Do you think it is useful to protect the forests? A lot of people said that forests should be protected because they are Life and preserve our oxygen. They argued that we needed forests to respect the balance that is in nature.
