What is a level 5 leader? They set up successors for success They are compelling modest. They have unwavering resolve.

What a level 5 leader does? First Who …… Then What more easily adapt to a changing world The problem of to motivate and manage people largely goes away. Be rigorous about top management people decisions When in doubt, don’t hire — keep looking When you know you need to make a people change, act Put your best people on your biggest opportunities, not your biggest problems

DISCIPLINE THOUGHTS Confront the Brutal Force Create a culture wherein people have a tremendous opportunity to be heard and, ultimately, for the truth to be likewise heard. To accomplish this culture, as a leader: Lead with questions , not answers Engage in dialogue and debate, not coercion Conduct autopsies, without blame Build red flag mechanisms that turn information into information that cannot be ignored.

THE HEDGEHOG CONCEPT

DISCIPLINED ACTION To create a culture of discipline, you must: Build a culture around the idea of freedom and responsibility, within framework Fill your culture with self-disciplined people Don’t confuse a culture of discipline with a tyrannical disciplinarian Adhere with great consistency to the Hedgehog Concept

TECHNOLOGY ACCELERATION Find the right technologies Don’t overreact to New Technology
