Final Project Description Table 1 Circuit Table 2 Circuit Table 5 Circuit Table 3 Circuit Table 4 Circuit Table 6 Circuit F3 through F0 act as both output for circuit 1, as well as input to circuits 2-6 Light probes should also be connected to all outputs of all circuits for testing purposes All inputs to secondary circuits should have switches in allowing the tester to send variable inputs to the secondary circuits given the main circuit has enabled the secondary circuit Circuit 1’s F3 is the MSB if 4 bits are used for input. Circuit 1’s F2 is the MSB if 3 bits are used for input. In both cases, F0 is the LSB for input All 6 teams will have completely different set of circuits All circuits must be reduced to their lowest terms prior to building the circuits The circuit work must be divided amongst the team members Teams are responsible for understanding how to connect the different circuits Dr. Clincy Slide 3 3

CS3501 Final Project Teams should meet initially on Tuesday (6/28/16) to kick off final project – watch and listen to the project roll out together then strategize Teams should meet on Thursday (7/14/16) in finishing final project and preparing for presentation For both meeting days, teams can meet anywhere OUTSIDE of classroom (team decision) Final project work should be done in the lab as a team Your presentations will need to be in powerpoint. Deadline for all teams will be 7/18/16 at 12pm – 2% penalty per hour late By 7/18/16 (12pm), each team must upload to D2L their ppt presentation and Multisim file(s). Only one person from each team should do the uploading for the team. The files should clearly be labeled to indicate the team number. All teams will have the same amount of time in completing the presentation and circuit – you can only use the presentation and circuit uploaded on 7/18/16 for your presentation and circuit test. Project Steps: (1) Scope out strategy in completing project by 7/18/16 12pm, (2) Determine all reduced boolean functions for each circuit (scan and upload via one team member by 7/7/16 at 6pm, 2% penalty per hour late, graded on neatness too), (3) build circuits via Multisim in lab, (4) prepare for 13-minute presentation Dr. Clincy 4

CS3501 Final Project Rubric for grading the final project: (1) Reduced Boolean functions by 7/7/16 6pm (25%), (2) Presentation Quality (25%), (3) Circuit completion and testing – how well the circuit satisfies requirements (45%), (4) Professor’s perception of effective team work (5%) Each team must be prepared to test the circuit the day of their presentation. Multisim will be running on the Instructor PC in the classroom. 10 minutes will be allocated at the end of the presentation for the testing. The Professor will dictate the testing We will have only 23 minutes per team for the presentation and testing and therefore, the teams must be ready and prepared on their presentation day. The presentations will be posted on the course web page. The Professor will also be responsible for bringing the circuit your team uploaded to D2L. Presentations will be graded based on clarity, flow and thoroughness, and slide quality. There will be a small penalty levied for every minute the presentation goes over or under time. Although a circuit test will occur in the class room during the presentation time, the Professor reserves the right to further test the circuit after the presentation if 10 minutes was not enough time to complete the testing – your circuit completion and testing grade will be based on ALL testing and not just the 10-minute presentation testing that occurred in the classroom Dr. Clincy 5

Presentation Dates July19th (Tuesday) – Teams 1, 2 and 3 July 21st (Thursday) – Teams 4, 5 and 6 All team members will need to present The teams need to ONLY show up on the day the teams present As long as your team is a size of two or greater, it is considered a team (eg. inactive members and members that drop) Dr. Clincy

CS3501 Presentation Requirements Your presentation should be 13 minutes All team members must participate in some part of the presentation and testing Docked 5% /minute for going over or below time limit of 13 minutes Graded on (1) presentation clarity, flow and thoroughness (80%), and (2) slide quality (20%) Your presentation should overview the following: (1) A high-level explanation of how your circuit should work, (2) Upfront, make the audience aware if you think your circuit is working correctly or not and if not, why. Answer the question: Are the reduced equations submitted on July 7th the same reduced equations actually implemented … or did the team discover there were some issues or errors with some of the reduced equations submitted on July 7th ? (3) all initial standard equations and all final reduced equations, (4) all individual circuits and the final integrated circuit, and (5) your team’s collective perception or opinion regarding Multisim’s features presented and used for the CS3501 labs and final project (only 10% of Multisim’s features – not interested in your opinion of Multisim’s numerous other features) Your presentation should flow as one presentation and not disjointed (can’t divide the subject – everyone must understand the entire effort – if not, will lose points on flow) You will have another 10 minutes for testing your circuit in real-time. You need to be prepared to demonstrate your circuit’s functionality. The Professor will dictate the testing You will need to upload the Multisim file you will use for testing by 12pm on July 18th. The Professor will download the file(s) for your presentation and test. The team should determine what file(s) is/are need to be uploaded that will allow the team to demonstrate their circuit on their presentation date.
