Virginia’s Branches of Government Can you name them???

Checks and Balances Virginia’s governments is broken into three branches (parts) so it can have “Checks and balances” With the power divided into three parts, no one person or group has too much power Each group has its own separate Jobs and leaders Each group checks other groups to make sure they’re doing their jobs

Virginia’s Legislative Branch The Legislative branch makes the laws. It is their job to write laws and vote on them. The general assembly is the Legislative Branch. It is made up of two parts: The Virginia Senate, which has 40 members The Virginia House of Delegates, which has 100 members

Virginia’s Executive Branch The Executive Branch enforces the laws. It is their job to make sure laws are followed by Virginians (and anyone who visits Virginia) An elected governor is the head of the executive branch. The governor is helped by his cabinet and an elected Lieutenant Governor. Virginia’s Governor: Ralph Northam Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor: Justin Fairfax

Virginia’s Judicial Branch The judicial Branch judges people accused of breaking the laws and judges whether the laws are fair The Judicial Branch is made up of judges all over Virginia The Virginia Supreme Court is the Highest court in Virginia and has seven judges known as Justices.

Executive Branch Legislative Branch Judicial Branch No one person or group has too much power Each group has its own separate jobs and leaders Each group checks other groups to make sure they’re doing their jobs.

The General Assembly: -Senate - House of Delegates Governor, his cabinet, and the Lieutenant Governor Judges in Virginia, Virginia’s Supreme Court
