Water
Water is a polar molecule. Polar = unequal charges
The hydrogen bonds between water molecules give it special properties important to life.
1. Cohesion: water bonds to itself
2. Adhesion: water bonds to other substances
*Cohesion & adhesion help plants carry water up from the roots to the leaves*
3. High Specific Heat: it takes a lot of energy for water to heat up or cool down
* When it is hot outside our body does not heat up quickly or freeze when it is cold.
Universal Solvent: water dissolves many things
solvent: dissolves other substances
solute: a substance that gets dissolved
solution: mixture of solvent & solute
*water in blood dissolves nutrients to carry to all parts of your body
