HARDWARE

HARDWARE The physical components which you can see, touch and feel in the computer system are called hardware. Example:- monitor, keyboard, mouse etc.s It also includes all the parts inside the computer case, such as the Processor  Memory (Primary)  Hard disk drive  CD-ROM  Floppy Drive , etc

SOFTWARE SYSTEM SOFTWARE APPLICATION SOFTWARE

SYSTEM SOFTWARE Operating system (OS) Utility software Firmware What does System Software mean? System software is a type of computer program that is designed to run a computer’s hardware and application programs. Basic examples of system software include: Operating system (OS) Utility software Firmware Programming Language Translators Device drivers

OPERATING SYSTEM (OS) The operating system (OS) is the most important program that runs on a computer. Every general-purpose computer must have an operating system to run other programs and applications. Computer operating systems perform basic tasks, such as recognizing input from the keyboard, sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the storage drives, and controlling peripheral devices, such as printers.

An operating system is a programme that acts as an interface between the user and the Computer hardware and controls the execution of all kinds of programs.

Functions of Operating system:- Memory Management Processor Management Device Management File Management Security Control over system performance Job Accounting Error detecting aids Coordination between other software and users

TYPES OF OPERATING SYSTEMS

UTILITY SOFTWARE Examples of Utility Software A utility or software utility is computer system software intended to analyze, configure, monitor, or help maintain a computer. Typically a utility is smaller than an program in size and may be included with an operating system or installedseparately. Examples of Utility Software Examples of Utility Software are antivirus software, backup software’s and disk tools etc.

APPLICATION SOFTWARE An application is any program, or group of programs, that is designed for the end user. Applications software(also called end-user programs) include such things as database programs, word processors, Web browsers and spreadsheets.

Examples of Applications Software Few Applications Software are:- MS Word WordPad Notepad Auto CAD Media player Mysql, Oracle etc.
